Style Icon: Mona Lisa Vito

Helloooooo-ha!

First things first, have you ever watched the 1992 comedy film My Cousin Vinny? If the answer to this is no, then quick, hurry. Download it onto your laptop and be prepared for your sides to split over good, clean, comedy (bar the odd 'effword'). Now, aside from the hilarity of this film, another top reason to watch My Cousin Vinny is my ultimate number one girl crush of all time, Marisa Tomei as Mona Lisa Vito.

Her attitude, her eyebrows, her outfits... what is not to love? Mona Lisa Vito is a New York Italian chick with leathers, velvets and skin-tight cottons as her go to fabrics which could not be better for this chilly autumn-winter. Plus, Mona Lisa Vito, like me, is almost always over-dressed, so I think I could wear her look quite well as a similarly dark-haired feminist.

*A modern day version of this would have a black bodycon skirt and sky high black wedges; monochrome shoulder-pad jacket non-optional!*

*Check out the shades and hoop earrings. This woman seriously knows how to accesorize.*

*A bright red blazer, matching lipstick and larger than life roses surrounding her neck down into her cleavage is so Mona Lisa Vito! Just throw in a kick-ass facial expression and you have my heroine. Love Love Love.*

*I want this jumpsuit... and the body to go with it please.*

Isn't her hair great? I desperately want a white streak through my own hair now...*

*Even in her jimjams Mona Lisa looks beautiful... Lip stain, mascara and dark eyebrow pencil are probably all that is needed to look as attractive as Mona Lisa Vito... I wish.*

Luckily, I've realized that the best place on the high street (also known as a little place called Topshop) has tons of items which would contribute to a Mona Lisa Vito look... Now all I have to do is save for the following pieces:

Pinned Image

£89 Ombre Faux Mongolian Coat

Pinned Image

£26 Lace Roll Neck Crop Top

Pinned Image

£85 Baroque Skinny Jeans...

Pinned Image

£10 Skinny Polo Crop...

Pinned Image

£80 Embellished Boots...

Pinned Image

£65 Fringe Devore Kimono

Pinned Image

£180 Limited Edition Embellished Bodycon Dress...

Pinned Image

£8 Lips in Beguiled...

Pinned Image

£180 Cross Embroidered Biker Jacket...

Who is your autumn-winter style crush at the moment? Have you ever seen My Cousin Vinny before? Which of these pieces is your absolute favorite? The embellished boots are the top of my to-buy list at the moment!

My Plans For London Fashion Weekend...

Having spent the past few days feeling a bit like death cooled right down, I am really hoping and praying that I am 100% recovered for Sunday the 23rd of September, because I'm going to London Fashion Weekend and after looking at the jam-packed schedule of fun activities, I'm going to need all my energy...

So I've got it all planned. I'm hoping to roll into Temple tube station at about 9.30am and my dream day plan is as follows...

Sunday 23rd September

10am - Arrive at Somerset House for London Fashion Weekend!

12.15pm - VIP Styling (A celebrity panel talk about key looks for Autumn/Winter and trends for Spring/Summer, sharing their top styling tips and telling stories of styling disasters hosted by Amber Atherton, Jessie Ware, Kim Howell and Avigail Claire)

1.45pm - The Sunday Fashion Panel (The expert panel discusses, What makes a fashion trend? Hosted by Hilary Alexander, Lydia Bright, Olivia Rubin and Nick Ede)

2.30pm - Twenty8Twelve Fashion Show

3.15pm - The Elle Panel The Beauty Panel (An inside preview to the hottest hair and beauty trends of the season hosted by Tony and Guy, Elizabeth Arden, benefit and more)

5.00pm - Trend Catwalk Fashion Show

Now, I'm not sure how long any of these things are going to last so I might be being exceptionally ambitious with my time, but hopefully that will be my plan. Apart from these different events though, I'm not quite sure what else will be happening as I've never been to London Fashion Weekend before...

Have you every been? Is it like The Clothes Show where there are tons of stalls and a beauty area? Are you attending London Fashion Weekend this year?

If you don't yet have a ticket, don't forget to go enter my giveaway where you can win a ticket to the event right HERE... Good luck!

My USA Haul...

This is the post you've all been waiting for ladies... the USA Haul!

Now, I must warn all of you that were expecting a haul similar to that which I carried home with me last summer... This year was not as flashy. Last year, I carried an entirely separate suitcase full of new things back with me, and I must have spent no less that $2000 on shopping alone. I did this because I was working last summer so was constantly earning, plus food was so cheap last summer and I never needed to pay for fun things to do because working in Disney World they let you go into the theme parks for free. This year, I wasn't earning. Also, I found the food to be somewhat pricier in the places on my route from Los Angeles over to New York than it had been in Orlando. AND I wasn't getting many freebies in terms of activities.

*Last year's haul...*

That being said, I couldn't come home without 'investing' in a few key items for the coming season, now could I? Of course not, it would be a scandal! So here is (the majority of...) what I bought in the States...

*WOWZAS. From the left to right you will see... A red lacy dress with a deep back from Forever 21, two pairs of cheeky panties from Victoria's Secret, a yellow bodycon skirt from Forever 21, a galaxy print blouse from Forever 21, a very short peach lacy dress from Forever 21, two MORE pairs of cheeky panties from Victoria's Secret, ANOTHER bodycon skirt from Forever 21 but red this time, a sheer hot pink blouse from Forever 21 and a pleated pleather skirt from Forever 21. Three guesses what my favorite store is? Oh and in the middle of the peach dress you'll see two MAC lipsticks in Sequin and New York Apple in the Frost finish.*

So as I say, this is the majority of the stuff I picked up in the States. For once I didn't spend much in American Eagle at all really, except for on the red sweater in this photo:

And the New York T-shirt in this photo:

Here are the goodies I bought closer up...

*My uncle actually bought me the red dress which was such a lovely treat! I figured these panties were cute because they let my butt peek out at the bottom which I kind of like... The yellow skirt is a bit bright, but with the right coloured sweater it is pretty cute.*

*This peach dress caught my eye immediately because I was looking for something to wear on a hot date and I just thought it was really cute! Although it is really quite short, it is floaty enough so it doesn't look cheap or slutty or brassy. I think the colour suited my tan quite well although I'm note sure how fab it looks now I'm pale again!*

*MAC lipstick swatches... Frost finish, Sequin on the bottom, New York Apple on the top. This photo was taken with flash. Look out for my review on both these products and I'll probably using them in tutorials very soon too!*

*Now for without flash... I also bought a MAC Lipstick for my sister in Russian Red too so I will probably be robbing that from her soon for a video or two :)*

*I actually bought the galaxy print blouse because the back of my neck was SO sunburned in Los Angeles that I needed something light to cover it. I bought this blouse which kept me covered but actually caused me even more bother because the fabric was so scratchy and rough on my sore skin... Having said that, it is a really cute blouse. Very sheer and sexy. I couldn't resist buying another couple of cheeky panties, and as soon as I saw the flattering fit of the yellow bodycon I just had to have it in red too!*

*This pinky blouse (I know it looks purple in this picture, but trust me, it is pink) is totally not my style AT ALL. I just picked it up so I would have something to try this black skirt on with (which I fell in love with at first sight because it is so effing na-na-na-come-on-feels-so-good-being-bad S&M I just couldn't resist) and I immediately loved it. I haven't tried it on since though and looking at these pictures is making me a bit apprehensive as it is so not me... watch this space*

*There are a couple more items which I picked up while I was away including this Essie nail-polish in the shade Masterplan. I also bought another shade named BBF Boy Best Friend which is a very pale pink polish. I'm hooked on the Essie formulas, they just look so shiny and smooth, I can't stop looking at them and stroking them. Full review soon to come!*

Apart from everything in these pictures, I also picked up a couple of bits of jewelry and a pair of black booties from (you've guessed it) Forever 21! I'm sure you'll see them tons this season as I swear I'm going to wear them every day through Autumn/Winter.

So what do you think? Are you gutted I didn't buy as much as last summer? What is your favourite part of my haul? Have you tried Essie polishes yet? Don't you JUST LOVE the MAC Frost Finishes?

Style Profile: Autumn/Winter 2012: Topshop: Mad Men Modern...

So I'm not sure if all you beautiful people are aware, but I got a job a couple of days ago... To find out more check out my How To Pass A Job Interview post. However, back to business! Since I'm now a grown up with a real-life grown up job, I'm going to need some smart-looking attire, aren't I? And since I'll be being paid a healthy wage, I'm going to have enough money to buy myself a little work-outfit perhaps every couple of weeks. So I've been scouring the high-street store websites for different bits and bobs which I think would look fab in the office. I'm loving the sexy shapes which some of the smarter items have at the moment, peplum and shift dresses, pencil skirts and blazers, pencil trousers and tuxedo jackets... I could go on for ever! So here is the first little outfit that I'd like to invest in.

This collection is all about sexy silhouettes, soft colour but bold shapes! This is a 1940's inspired look which would be ideal for bringing some girl power to the office. I want to invest in the dress, the pink sunnies, the pink and black bag and the black shoes. I used only Topshop clothes in this collection. Sexy but professional, what is not to love?

What would you wear to turn heads and be taken seriously in the office? Do you prefer pants or skirt suits? Would you wear a dress without a blazer for work or do you think it is too casual?

Love and kisses

Social Networking 101: Blogging Inspiration #1

This is a list of my Blog Idols or Blog Crushes... Blogs that make me cringe with jealousy that they are so professional, interesting and pretty to look at and make me want to do better! There's nothing like a bit of healthy competition, so without much ado I'm going to let you in on my little secrets...

***

I adore...

So I might be a teensy bit biased seeing as the blogger is my bestie Victoria Measures, but this blog is really great to while my spare minutes away browsing. She posts hundreds of pretty photos each month, writes about people that inspire her and gives updates on her day-to-day life including fashion hauls, competition wins and DIY craft products. She's One To Watch if you ask me, so head over there and take a look!

Fleur has a great blog but the real 'win' of her work in my opinion are her YouTube channels. She posts frequent fashion hauls, make-up and nail tutorials and beauty reviews really frequently at her Main Channel and I often watch them early in the mornings during breakfast or something. Fleur has such a nice conversational style that her videos are really easy to watch! Plus, if like me you are uber-nosy then Fleur has a great Vlog About Her Personal Life too! Here's just one example...

Elle and Blair

These two sisters were the girls that got me into blogging and vlogging! Elle, the older sister, started making videos of herself in her bedroom years ago with an average camera and minimal editing. She got her sister involved and now they both have a couple of channels each, as well as their website where not only do they post features on beauty products, fashion brands and competitions they're loving, but readers can also talk to each other on their forums and shop tons of girly essentials in their online store Glitzy Glam. Elle posts great haul videos like this;

And Blair is the BEST at make-up tutorials;

I wish I was a Fowler girl!

This is one of the most beautiful 'real life' girls I've ever seen (meaning she's not a famous super-model, actress or musician) AND she has the most amazing clothes collection I've ever seen. I would kill for just five minutes in her wardrobe, no joke! If I'm ever lacking in a bit of fashion inspiration, I know I can head over to her page and 'borrow' one of her looks with my own clothes and look classy, sexy and chic all at once. She's my ultimate, go-to, blogging, fashion idol. Be prepared for the lushness.

AndreasChoice

This is another video blogger who I like checking out on one of those days where I'm exhausted and just want to spend the day in bed under the duvet getting ideas to make me look hot! Of course, Andrea's videos are perfect for this as she's extremely gorgeous in a very natural way :) Furthermore, she's absolutely hilarious and never fails to make me smile. She has really clever ideas about home remedies for lots of different problems that girls might have... Dark underarms? Acne scars? Various uses for salt? AndreasChoice has you covered! As if that's not enough, she's really nice too and Tweets, comments and emails back as often as possible.

Sarah is a jewelry designer and blogger which I love above all others (apart from those in this list which naturally I love equally!) Her jewelry is so cool and unusual in lots of cute little styles. My favourite piece in her collection is this little bird cage necklace, but sadly it sold out before I had times to get my hands on it! The pieces are very reasonably priced and so many people would compliment your bling if you were wearing Temporary Secretary. A busy bee, Sarah's blog is awesome too to the extent where she actually won Look magazines prestigious blog competition. As with Andrea, Sarah is really sweet and she is always happy to answer comments and Tweets if my experience is anything to go by. Seriously one worth following.

***

So, those are my top favourite bloggers and vloggers so far! I literally find new favourites every day, so if you think I'm seriously missing out on one which you think I would love as much as the ones listed above then let me know... It's quite a challenge though! I seriously believe in sharing the love and congratulating girls (or guys) on their blogs when they're doing a great job, because even with my few viewers I know how much work goes into a blog. So, well done ladies!

I advise all readers to click on the above links and rate, comment, like, follow and subscribe to them... I promise, your fashion sense, beauty regime and lifestyle will thank you for it :)

HauteHaul Pre-Vacation Purchases Part 1 Primark, Topshop, River Island, Miss Selfridge...

*The Primark blouse and Topshop skirt 'in action' pre-Sherry Counsellors gig*

Long time no see Youtube! It feels like just yesterday I finished up with my university exams and came off my excruciating blog break, and yet I'm already getting ready to go on another break from my channel... Forgive me! This time I'm only going for 5 weeks, and this is solely because I'm not sure how much filming/editing I'll be able to do as I trek across the USA in the back of a mini-van. However, if I do have time/internet access I promise I'll update my blog and channel as frequently as possible!

So this is Part 1 on my Pre-Vacation Purchases haul in which I focus mainly on the items of clothing I've bought in preparation for my trip. I will be posting a Part 2 which will include all of the essential toiletries I've bought very soon. Then who knows, its likely I'll go on another bit of a spree at some point over the next week or so in which case I'll post a Part 3 :)

For those of you who have been backpacking before, you may be thinking, 'WHAT? She's planning on taking wedges with her??? What use is that flowery mini-skirt going to be in Yosemite??? She's surely not going to wear a midi-skirt to take a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon???' And I salute you for your rationality. However, I am in fact going to do my VERY BEST to try and take these new bits of clothing away with me. Otherwise, what would I wear on my 4th of July in Vegas??? How could I wow the straight-talking fashion-forward New Yorkers? Would I even fit in with Los Angeles's 'beautiful people' without the assistance of my sexy little Primark blouse? I think not. So stop bugging me! :p

Keep an eye out for my Pre-Vacation Purchases Part 2 and let me know if you have been backpacking before? Do you have any capsule wardrobe tips for a glamour girl? What would you take to the other side of the globe if you only had a backpack? And more importantly, HOW would you cut down on your makeup collection in order to avoid carrying a big huge pink train case packed to bursting with MAC lipsticks across the national parks of North America?

ps. I apologize profusely for my lack of concentration (hence 'ummmm' noise) and constant sniffing throughout. I've been kind of poorly with a cold for the past few days, plus I haven't recorded a video in what feels like AGES so I'm a bit off my game. And I know my hair looks terrible, but as I say, I'm poorly, so let me off, yeah?

60 Years of Royal Fashion... Can Jubilee've It?

DO YOU GET IT??? 'CAN JUBILEE'VE IT?' AS IN, 'CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?' BUT WITH 'JUBILEE' INSTEAD OF 'YOU BELIE'. Genius.

Unless you've been living under some sort of rock for the past year or so, you'll be aware that the Queen of our nation has been sat on her throne (metaphorically speaking) for 60 whole years. Congratulations, Queenie! Good job!

However, with virtually no interest in politics or the monarch as a 'ruling' body, the outfits which our Queen has rocked over (and before) her 60 year reign have attracted my attention. Let's take a look at her style history, shall we?

In 1947 the then-Princess Elizabeth the Second announced her engagement to what was to become Prince Phillip, in a very pale pink dress with an asymmetric hemline, a slightly puffed sleeve and bow detail on the waist and shoulders. Of course, the length of the dress reached an appropriate just-past-the-knee length paired with a somewhat 'risque' peep-toe kitten heel. A simple string of pearls accessorized the outfit alongside a big huge smile which held the promise of the imminent happy marriage to come.

Later that same year, the Princess's pearls made a re-appearance at the Duchess of Buccleugh's dinner at the Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh. This time, she paired them with a fairy-tale floor-length frock, with sheer, capped sleeves and elbow-length white gloves. So so classy.

In 1949 the Princess pushed the boundaries of fashion-for-royals appropriateness with a revealing off-the-shoulder gown in silver. The sleeves had ruched detail and once again, Elizabeth the Second sported her trade-mark pearls. I can't help but notice how awesome her eyebrows look in this picture, full and thick, yet groomed to perfection. So retro. The serious expression is down to the fact that this photo was taken for a royal portrait, I only wish she'd cracked that beautiful smile!

At the royal coronation in 1953, a whole year after Princess Elizabeth the Second's ascension to the throne, the now-Queen wore what must have been a very HEAVY thick-material floor-length gown, complete with gold rope details, a fur stole, an elaborate train, and the highly-symbolic crown of jewels atop her perfectly coiffed hair.

In 1959 the Queen attended a cocktail party at Windsor hosted by the 1st Battalion Irish Guards, in one of my favorite of her outfits to date! This mid-length lace dress with matching cropped jacket was in one of two colours which I think the Queen wears fantastically; lemon yellow. Now, I'm not positive (I'd have to ask her to confirm) but I do believe I recognize these white, kitten-heeled peep-toes from her engagement announcement picture! Looks like Princess Katherine isn't the only fashion repeater in the royal family! Not that I'm complaining, if it's not broken don't fix it, and these shoes obviously work.

A 1967 visit to Malta meant that the Queen could try out some of the more exotic trends of the time. This Hardy Amies double-breasted coat with a cute collar in a bold floral pattern looks fab. On her left shoulder, the Queen wore two diamond brooches and once again we see a glimpse of a pearl necklace peeking out from her collar. The real 'hit' of this outfit though has to be the perfectly matched floral hat! One has to be brave to sport such an 'out there' fashion item, no? Also, I think I'm going to have to buy some white gloves this year. They're just so chic.

Fast-forward to 1986 and we can see that the Queen's penchant for the Hardy Amies coat collection prevails, as she wore this hot pink option on a trip to New Zealand. White gloves, standard. Loving the match of the white gloves with the white hat and the hot pink flower with the coat. However, I must express my disappointment at the colour of the hand-bag and shoes... I'd much rather they'd been in white! Nonetheless, I do like the styles of both items especially the boxy bag.

At the 2011 Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton the Queen wore lemon yellow like in 1959. The best thing about THIS outfit though (in my opinion) is the classic white handbag... I'm not quite sure where it's from but I want one. It reminds me a bit of something Chanel would make, so I'm just off to scour ebay for a vintage one... ciao for now.

Here we are in almost-present day, at the 2012 Epsom Derby of just yesterday, the Queen wore the one other colour which I believe she wears so well. Royal blue suits this lady to a T, and by pairing this beautiful coat with a sliver of floral material showing from beneath the coat, the Queen shows that the terrible weather isn't going to dampen her go-to summer preference for flowered outfits. The best accessory to this outfit has to be the genuine smile which Elizabeth the Second had permanently fixed on her face.

Classic, timeless and quintessentially British, the Queen of England has been a fashion icon for even longer than she's held her title! I hope that her reign continues for many more years of fashion history. Happy Diamond Jubiliee, Queenie!

Which is your favorite outfit the Queen has worn? Don't you think its funny that peep-toe and off-the-shoulder is considered controversial in royal fashion? Are you going to be purchasing some white gloves, pearls or funky hats for this spring/summer?

Style Profile: Spring/Summer 2012: Miss Selfridge: NouveauChic...

I'm loving this whole Polyvore thing! Literally obsessed with it! If you aren't quite sure what I'm talking about, go check out THIS LINK then come back and tell me how amazing their site is.

Anyway, the latest look I've thrown together using their site is what I call NouveauChic. Black has always been THE notoriously chic colour. However, for this Spring/Summer, classic chic has taken a new turn, incorporating some softer pastel colours into what is still quintessentially cool. My favourite colours to mix with black are splattered across Miss Selfridge's clothes racks and website, so I threw this look together using pastel pink/peach/nude and turquoise/green/blue hues. NouveauChic is perfect for gigs and music festivals alike, and is versatile enough to transfer from day to night.

The shapes are usually long and floaty on EITHER the top or bottom, and tighter on the other. So I'm thinking hot-pant knicker shorts with kimonos, ballerina-inspired sheer skirts with tight crop-tops, and playsuits cinched at the waist. The shoes are always high and usually wedges as this is definitely a summer look-to-impress. Sunglasses, sun-hats and ascot scarves add to the chilled out glamour and a nice big handbag makes NouveauChic practical as you can carry everything you might need for the day. Finally, the jewelry is a mix of blacks, golds, silvers, light pinks, blue gems, white rope and cross-icons.

Hope you like it!

So there you have it. I've been trying to rock this look recently and I've been happy with how easy and cheap it can be! Most people have black items which can be used as accents in NouveauChic, and the other items are generally quite plain and hence also cheap-ish. Obviously, the accessories are gorgeous, but they are really just extras in this style so I might leave them for a particularly rich day and stock up on the plainer separates in the meantime.
Are you as mad for this look as I am? Do you have any other ideas of what to wear to festivals this summer? Can you think of another quite cheap look which I could consider for this summer? Do you have Polyvore accounts? If so, please leave me your link!
